A holistic lifestyle is all about balancing your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health so that you can have a fulfilling experience in your mind and body.
To experience less stress and more happiness, this is a journey we should all be on even if we have a busy lifestyle.
In fact, if you are too busy to take care yourself the right way, then that’s when you really need to start adding these wellness tips to your daily routine.
The holistic approach seeks to promote positive habits that will benefit you in the long-run, instead of using short-term hacks. So if you want to get to a healthy weight, heal inflammation, and get better sleep, this is a good place to start.
With these simple tips, you can start a holistic lifestyle today.
How To Start A Holistic Lifestyle
1- Eat more fruits, vegetables and whole foods.
The food you eat is actively building your immune system muscles, nervous system, etc. The foods you eat daily contribute to your overall wellbeing. That’s why it’s important to choose natural foods that can heal inflammation and provide immune support. Holistic eating is about making whole foods a part of your daily life.
2- Drink 6-8 cups of water every day.
You need water to stay hydrated, have clear skin, and remove toxins from your body. Your body needs enough water and nutrients for digestion, removing toxins, and making blood (92% of blood is water).
Have a problem with water intake?
Try starting your day with a large cup, just to get things flowing. Incorporating fruits like watermelon, grapes, and pears also help with overall hydration.
3- Limit your sugar consumption to get more clarity & maintain ideal weight.
Sometime we have a major sweet tooth but unfortunately most lifestyle diseases can be linked to an over consumption of sugar. Holistic nutrition isn’t about removing it completely from your diet but you should consume sugar in moderation and choose healthier sources to sweeten your food. Some ideas are:
- coconut sugar
- honey
- stevia
- cane juice
- Agave (my favorite)
This is something that I’ve struggled with for years and fortunately I now have a set of tools and recipes that I go to when I need to get my sugar consumption (and weight) under control.
4- Add live nutrients to your body to boost your immune system.
Most persons just don’t get the range of nutrients they need from food because of their diet. Instead of using multivitamins to add nutrients and trace minerals to your body, it’s more effective to make fruit and vegetable juices.
In addition to that, most vitamin supplement aren’t effective. Live nutrients always work best, and the best way to get them is by being intentional about consuming a variety of foods, making juices, or having raw salads every day.

5- Be More Active
Activity can look like walking, running, going to the gym, gardening, swimming, or even yoga. Yoga helps to increase your flexibility and improves your blood circulation. Being more active overall boosts your metabolism and can help you to lose weight.
6- Take 30 minute walks
Starting your day with a walk or run is a great way to get outside and get fresh air. Being active in nature improves your circulation and forces you to take deep breaths, which improves your oxygen levels. There is the also the benefit of losing weight and releasing toxins through sweat.
7- Try Fun Activities
From boot camps to dance classes and pilates, a holistic fitness routine is about choosing activities that you enjoy doing that are good for your body. You can try:
- Martial arts
- Pilates
- Dance classes
- Spinning
- Yoga
- Aerobics
- Cycling
- Hiking
- Rock Climbing
8- Spend Time in Nature
If you live in the city, it’s easy to forget how healing and calming mother nature is. It’s good to get away from the city and chaos to spend time in nature reflecting, journaling, or just appreciating the beauty of life. It’s a great way to calm your mind and de-stress. Which brings me to the next step.
9- Reduce Stress
This is easier said than done, but it’s so important if your goal is to have a healthy life. Stress is the trigger for many lifestyle diseases because it creates the hormones adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine.
If too much of the hormone is in your body, that has a negative impact on your physical health. Here’s how you can reduce stress:
- Talk to someone, instead of bottling emotions
- Get enough sleep
- Focus on the things that matter to you instead of what people think
- Find something you enjoy doing outside of work
- Form positive and healthy relationships
- Get a pet
- Start exercising
10- Meditate and Journal
These two things have been found to work wonders for mental health. By practicing meditation as a part of your holistic lifestyle, you are intentionally choosing to remove negative thoughts and focus on the good. Journaling also helps you to learn more about yourself and recommit to your goals, values, and lifestyle.
11- Get Enough Sleep
Because 5 hours a night is not enough and we need sleep so our bodies can heal and reset for the next day. Sleeping is also great for stress and mental health.
