Maple Butter Pie Crust Recipe

The maple butter pie crust adds a deliciously rich and slightly sweet flavor to your pies. Here’s a recipe for a maple butter pie crust that you can use for various pie fillings, from fruit to custard pies. This recipe makes enough for one 9-inch pie crust.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 2-3 tablespoons ice water

Instructions:

  1. Note:
  2. It’s important to work with cold ingredients to ensure a flaky crust. Start by placing the cubed butter in the freezer for about 15 minutes before using.

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
  2. Drizzle the maple syrup over the flour mixture.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the bowl with the flour and maple syrup. Using a pastry cutter or two forks, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. You want to leave some small, pea-sized pieces of butter in the mixture; this is what makes the crust flaky.
  4. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, to the mixture. Gently stir or toss the mixture with a fork after each addition. You want to add just enough water for the dough to come together.
  5. Once the dough starts to clump together, gather it into a ball. Be careful not to overwork the dough; you want to handle it as little as possible to keep it tender.
  6. Flatten the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Chilling the dough allows the butter to firm up again, making it easier to roll out.
  7. After chilling, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to fit your pie dish.
  8. Carefully lift the rolled-out dough and place it into your pie dish. Trim any excess overhanging dough and crimp the edges as desired.
  9. Prebake (if needed): Depending on your pie recipe, you may need to prebake the crust. Follow your specific pie recipe instructions for baking times and temperatures.

Now you have a delicious maple butter pie crust ready for your favorite pie filling. Enjoy!
