The keto detox salad recipes below use leafy greens that are low in carbs and high in antioxidants, minerals, and have alkaline properties that reduce oxidative stress. Doing a detox on a keto diet is a good way to add live nutrients to your body and help reduce inflammation.
Low carb vegetables like cucumbers, spinach, and kale ( and these and those) are easy to prepare. Add the right plant-based fats like avocadoes and nuts, and you have a healthy salad that’s healing your body inside out.
How To Detox On The Keto Diet
There are different types of low carb diets and keto is the strictest one that requires a state of ketosis. In order to stay in ketosis, it’s essential to get the majority of your calories from fats, with some from protein and a very limited amount of carbohydrates.
For this article, we are assuming that your keto diet is a regular one; which means a combination of red meats, dark/fatty meats, cheese, bacon, eggs, and other dairy products.
This means it’s a good idea to eat high-quality vegetables daily to add the nutrients that your body needs to function at a high level. The proteins and fats that you eat should also be from high-quality sources (hormone-free and organic). Read more about detoxing here.
Nutrient-rich low carb vegetables are at the center of these keto detox salads. The first two have less than 5g net carbs and have one serving.
1- Crunchy Cucumber Salad
In this crunchy detox salad, the apple cider vinegar is used as a dressing and a detoxing agent. Try to get an Apple Cider like this one that still has the ‘mother’, which is a residue of the fermentation process.
This has been used for decades to aid digestion, help weight control, and help to balance the pH in the body.
Ingredients:
- 1 small cucumber
- 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tbsp rice or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh dill weed sprigs, chopped
- 2 stalks scallion, chopped
- 1 shake cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp salt
Method:
Thinly slice the cucumbers with a sharp knife or mandolin slicer. Add the chopped cilantro, dill, and scallions. In a separate container, combine the lemon juice and vinegar. Combine everything and allow to sit for 5 minutes before consuming.
2- Green Avocado Detox Salad
This salad is easy to assemble and can make for a quick lunch salad. If you are making it ahead, add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to prevent the avocadoes from browning and to add more flavor.
Ingredients
- 1/2 medium-large avocado, cubed
- 1/2 cucumber, finely chopped or spiralized
- 2 stalks of green onion, chopped
- 1 handful of organic cilantro or parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp toasted walnuts or pine nuts
- 2 tbsp of avocado oil
- 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp of salt
Method
Combine all the ingredients in a medium-sized bowl and serve immediately.
3- Kale Detox Salad
This salad has 6 servings, with 6g net carbs per serving.
Method
- Put the chopped kale into a large bowl and set it aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and sea salt until it’s fully combined.
- Pour the lemon dressing over the kale leaves and use a spoon to coat the leaves with the dressing. Then massage the dressing into the kale with your hands- pick up a handful of kale and squeeze it repeatedly. Do this until the kale softens and begins to lose volume.
- Top with avocado and toss lightly. Serve immediately and keep leftovers in the refrigerator.
